Thank you for considering submitting an application for a Social Media Breakfast Madison Scholarship! As part of our commitment to social media education, SMBMad is committed to providing our group of diverse professionals with financial resources to help them pursue additional learning opportunities. SMBMad Scholarships are here to help our community attend local, regional, or national social media and digital marketing conferences.
Scholarship Eligibility
We have established the following guidelines to facilitate scholarship applications and maximize the fund’s impact to the community:
- Scholarship funds are applicable only for conferences, classes, or seminars that educate the recipient on best practices, strategy, tips, tools, or analytics for social media or digital marketing.
- The maximum award amount per recipient is up to $500 for a one-day conference, and up to $750 for a multi-day conference.
- Recipients are not eligible to receive more than one scholarship per calendar year.
- Recipient must be an active member of our community within the last year, attending monthly events either online or in-person.
Applicants may apply multiple times in a calendar year if initial scholarship request is not granted.
Funds Disbursement
Scholarship funds are for education only (NOT for flights, gas, meals, etc.) and will be paid directly to the third party on the recipient’s behalf.
Recipient Requirements
To ensure that knowledge gained from scholarships has a broader impact on the Social Media Breakfast Madison community, the award recipient is required to share back to the SMBMad community after the conference ends.
We ask that this be completed in two ways:
- Please share a personal experience post with an original image about the event you attend on your chosen social channel and tag SMBMad!
- Complete a minimum of one of the following tasks. This will be determined in collaboration with the SMBMad board, but you may suggest any task you prefer based on your specific skill set! Here are a few examples of what can be done to accomplish this:
- Write a blog post with key takeaways from the event
- Create a social media post to be posted on SMB socials – either video or photo and copy
- Volunteer at a future SMBMad event as requested
- Use your talents to help promote SMBMad in other ways – what is your specialty? Let us know your ideas!
Application & Selection Process
Please submit your SMBMad scholarship application at least 4-8 weeks prior to the conference date and prior to ordering tickets to attend (please apply as early as possible if there are early bird/advanced ticket sales – we’d always prefer to pay the lowest rate for tickets when possible.).
Applications will be reviewed by the SMBMad Board and applicants can expect to hear about application status within 30 days of submission. The applicant will be contacted via email, regardless of whether or not the request is granted.
Selection of a recipient will be based primarily on the applicant’s reasons for attending the conference and the ability to share knowledge back to the SMBMad community. Please spend significant time with your application and answer the questions with detail.
The SMBMad Scholarship fund will allocate money as available to SMBMad. No scholarships are guaranteed.
Social Media Breakfast Madison board members, sponsors and volunteers will be held to the same standards as all other applicants and will be required to follow the same application process.
Not Able to Attend?
If you’re unable to attend for any unavoidable circumstance, please let the SMBMad Board know immediately.
The board will do their best to use or repurpose the ticket. If the ticket cannot be repurposed, the SMBMad Board will try to recoup the scholarship dollars from the conference organizer.
If you fail to attend for an avoidable reason, SMBMad will seek reimbursement from funds directly from the recipient, if unobtainable from the conference organizer.
Scholarship Transfer
Scholarship dollars already paid to the conference organizer can be transferred to another applicant at the discretion of the Scholarship Committee.
